Naps are good for you

Hello Friends,

How are you today? Ok, so this is my 2nd blog and I have to be honest I struggled to get to it. I told myself that I’d do one blog post a week and it is already Saturday on week 2 and now I just publicly set myself up for accountability. Yikes, I need to get writing or something. I need to make more coffee and then I’ll do this…

15 minutes later…

Alright, let’s do this.

Do any of you have a self motto that you like to use? I just did. I usually will hype myself up by saying “Alright let’s do this!” over and over in my head. It works for some weird reason. In last week’s post we talked about getting to know our brand and the people behind it and our word of the year. I went over some fun facts and think I will try to keep that going. Fun facts seem to be a bit more digestible in brain processing; at least it is for me. I have a hard time remembering what day it is because I am constantly doing something in the Bay Area. Sometimes it is a good thing and sometimes it really sucks because I miss a lot of things like parties with my family. I think this week was a week where I really missed my family. They live about 2.5/3 hours away from me so it isn’t always easy to hop in a car and go see them. Here are a few fun facts about them

  1. There’s a lot of us! Just within my immediate family (that’s bros, sistas, nieces/nephews, mom/dad, partners) there is a total of 18

  2. Two of us are adopted. Who could they be… (saving this for another blog post)

  3. Ever since I can remember there is always, always some kind of animal running around. Whether it be a human or a dog.

Now, that we’ve learned a little bit about my family. Let’s switch gears here and dive into some coffee news because it is my life right now. Well, most of what is always on my mind. Recently, I’ve noticed an increase in my coffee intake and I am not sure why. Perhaps because I am getting older and not sleeping as well as I used to. I’ve also noticed that I take more naps which never used to happen. I mean, right now it’s maybe one 30-60 minute nap every other week, that is a lot for me, but still an increase.

Do you take naps? How often and for how long? Is this normal for you?

I don’t really have time for naps, and I also realize that I took for granted nap time as a kidlet, but yesterday after work I took a 45 minute nap and it felt so good. I am going to google “benefits of a nap”.. Because maybe if we know and it’s backed by research that they’re good for us, we will be better people and schedule naps in our routines. And we’re all about #PromoteGooddoGood around here.

10 minutes later…

There ARE some great benefits of napping. According to the national sleep foundation it can enhance work performance, improve alertness, and reduce mistakes and accidents. And, a study that NASA conducted on “sleepy military pilots and astronauts found that a 40-minute nap improved performance by 34% and alertness 100%.” That seems like a good statistic, don’t you think. If it worked for them then maybe it will for us.

To come full circle here I am realizing that my life is busy because I am drinking 3-4 cups of coffee a day, (which might be why I can’t sleep during the night…) and I should plan naps in my routine to stabilize my coffee intake. As much as I LOVE coffee and drinking it daily I feel like it’s a bit too much for me right now and balance is important to me. Even though I run a coffee delivery business I still believe that being balanced in our coffee consumption intake is important.

What do you need to do to stay balanced in life?

Stay tuned for the next weekly blog..

Peace, Love, and Good Vibes
